On Thursday, SHAUN MURPHY became the first player to knock a 147 in the Snooker Shoot Out style, which is played quickly.
In a mere seven minutes and thirty-five seconds, The Magician achieved a remarkable maximum break, easily defeating 16-year-old Bulcsu Revesz.
Following his break, Murphy proceeded to clear the table and beat a clock counter, denying Revesz the opportunity to play another shot.
The popular crowd roared, “Don’t bottle it now!” at a pivotal point, but the Essex-born snooker player didn’t let it get to him.
And when he potted the black, he was showered with congratulations and thunderous ovation.
After the game, Murphy spoke with Eurosport and stated: “On the [final] blue, a fella called out ‘don’t bottle it. My goodness, I’m losing it. It was a lot of fun.
“I love the event and can’t believe what’s just happened. It was a real buzz. You get excited out there playing this event, win or lose.
“I’ve done both, played really nicely and really badly, but for the fans here, they’ve seen something special, it was a pleasure to play for them.”
He later told the World Snooker Tour channel: “I was trying to make the 147 from the very first shot.
“It was one of the best I have ever made. I am absolutely buzzing. Every ball I hit went in the middle of the pocket. I am gobsmacked.”
Murphy’s incredible 147 broke the previous record for the Shoot Out, which was established by Mark Allen at 142.
Shootout matches last ten minutes and are played over one frame.
In the first five minutes, players get fifteen seconds to make a shot; in the latter five, they have ten.
Ronnie O’Sullivan still manages to set the record for the fastest maximum 147 break, which is astounding.
He did it in the 1997 World Championship in five minutes and eight seconds.
