Xavier Worthy sets a record in the 40-yard sprint at the 2024 NFL Combine; see the list of the fastest 40 times ever
On Saturday night, Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy created history by setting the record for the quickest 40-yard dash in the event’s history. He did this by timing the wide receivers at the NFL Scouting Combine with a mark of 4.21 seconds.
John Ross set a record in 2017 with a time of 4.22 seconds, which Worthy surpassed after seven years. Up until the NFL declared that 4.21 was the official time, the unofficial timing was 4.22.

Giving himself another chance, Worthy, who scored a 4.25 on his initial run, managed to surpass the prior performance. It goes without saying that the clamour from the Lucas Oil Stadium crowd revved Worthy up.
In his second attempt, Worthy outran Ross with a 40-yard dash time of 4.25 seconds, which was the fifth-fastest in NFL history. He’s perched atop the record books these days.
It’s absurd. As a child, I spent my entire life watching the combine. I never imagined I’d be on this stage doing that since John Ross ran that (4.22),” Worthy said on NFL Network. “Just be patient and peak when it’s perfect, my trainer advised me. Everything arrived at the ideal time.
“If you feel like you can do it, just do it.”
Officially a 4.21 40 🚨 @XavierWorthy just broke a Combine record. 👏
