By the time the 2023 season reached its last stretch, the Pittsburgh Steelers were out of the running. The Steelers were all but out of the playoff picture after losing three straight games to finish at 7-7 after starting 7-4. However, Mike Tomlin turned the reins over to seasoned backup quarterback Mason Rudolph.
Rudolph averaged 240 yards per game, threw three touchdowns, and posted a quarterback rating of 118 as the Steelers won their final three games. On the last day of the regular season, Pittsburgh sneaked into the playoffs. They lost to the Buffalo Bills in the wild card round.
Although Rudolph is expected to become a free agent in March, he stated that the team has shown interest in having him return.
Rudolph remarked, “[I] visited with both Mike T and Omar [Khan],” on The Ramon Foster Show.”When they expressed their desire for me to return, I got the impression that they meant it and that they wanted to work with me going forward. I’m glad to hear that. However, as you pointed out, there are still a lot of unknowns, and it’s early.
When it comes to their quarterback options, the Steelers will have plenty of options. They may make a headline-grabbing trade or sign a well-known free agent. Alternatively, they might return to the NFL Draft’s well or even bring Rudolph back.
The offensive coordinator the Steelers choose will undoubtedly have an impact on what they do behind centre. We’ll start to see the bigger image take shape when the first domino falls.
