DT Cam Heyward of the Steelers says he won’t be taking a pay cut.
Cam Heyward, a defensive tackle for the Pittsburgh Steelers, had a difficult 2023 campaign. Heyward’s season was the lowest of his 13-year career, largely because of a number of ailments.
Some are questioning if Heyward will be asked to accept a pay cut for the benefit of the organisation in light of the fact that he is 34 years old and has a $22 million cap hit in 2023.
Heyward clarified that he is not taking a wage reduction in his response to this on his podcast, Not Just Football.
“I did everything in rehab and busted my butt.” Heyward remarked, “I have to give things time to settle down.” “It’s over with the people who always bringing up my pay decrease.”
The Steelers can reduce Heyward’s salary burden without taking a pay reduction directly by using a variety of strategies. Heyward’s salary might be converted to a bonus by the organisation if they sign him to an extension and implement a matching restructuring.
In actuality, this is merely delaying the inevitable cap hit, but it will eventually become due.
