SACK UPDATE: Steelers Revealed Mike Tomlin Sack Update Following Their Defeat Against Buffalo Bills
When asked about his NFL future, a former Super Bowl-winning coach abruptly ended a reporter’s inquiry in the middle of their sentence and rushed off the stage.
Following the Pittsburgh Steelers’ devastating 31-17 road loss to the Buffalo Bills in an AFC Wild Card game on Tuesday, Mike Tomlin had a lot to say.
said he was still fully committed to being the Steelers’ coach.
that Tomlin would stop at nothing to ensure that one of the league’s most illustrious teams will win another Super Bowl championship.
Tomlin would undoubtedly still be the team’s head coach in 2024, even though the Steelers need to improve this offseason and resolve their perplexing quarterback problem.
Tomlin remained silent.
Rather than respond to a straightforward query regarding his NFL future, the seasoned coach quickly left a stage, raising even more concerns.
A reporter started to pose a question and responded, “Mike, you have a year left on your contract,”
Tomlin refused to even for the entire question to be posed.
At a postgame press conference, he scowled, turned to the side, and hurriedly walked away from the cameras.
The NFL currently has seven head coach vacancies, and two more may open up.
Following Tuesday’s humiliating blowout loss to Tampa Bay, Nick Sirianni may be in trouble in Philadelphia. Pittsburgh and Tomlin must make a significant decision.
The 51-year-old Tomlin, who succeeded Bill Cowher in 2009, has made it to the Super Bowl twice and won it all.
However, the Steelers have not been the same since the height of Ben Roethlisberger’s success.
Pittsburgh was one of the oddest teams in the NFL this season, going 10-7 and making the playoffs, but posting a minus-20 point differential and producing one of the weakest offenses in the league.
“I’m appreciative of the efforts. But it’s not mystical. We didn’t do what was required to win tonight,” Tomlin said before walking off the stage.
He added: “Can’t come into an environment like this with a playoff-caliber team and turn the ball over like that and expect to be competitive.”
Questions have mounted about Tomlin’s future in recent weeks.
The 17-year coach is entering the final season of his contract, which is a rarity for a Steelers franchise normally based around stability.
Kenny Pickett struggled this season at QB and has been a draft disappointment, while Mason Rudolph isn’t viewed as a long-term answer.
The Steelers have a big, looming question about the status of their head coach in 2024.
But Tomlin won’t be the one answering any questions.
