In a relaxed way, Ronnie O’Sullivan got ready for the UK Championship final.
When Ronnie O’Sullivan was seen smoking a cigarette last week while waiting for a bus in York, one snooker enthusiast had an odd encounter. Just moments after the fan interaction video was shared on social media, The Rocket was racing in the UK Championship up in the north, which he won to take home a £250,000 cash prize.
Even though O’Sullivan, 48, is regarded by many as the best snooker player of all time, he nevertheless makes an effort to lead a regular life. Two days prior to this Sunday’s UK Championship final in York, one particularly ardent fan caught him smoking a cigarette and donning a blue beanie at a bus stop.
The fan said, “Look who I’ve got here,” in a TikTok video. “The star man, Ronnie O’Sullivan! My fortunate son, the snooker world champion. Mate, I have him right here. Oh my god, it’s unbelievable that we’ve met. I had you on my mind. God bless you!”
Although O’Sullivan has previously admitted that he despises the spotlight, he joked and grinned with the supporter before leaving to catch his bus.
It was a very different scene two days later at the York Barbican, when O’Sullivan was acclaimed for capturing his record-breaking ninth UK Championship title.
After winning his 22nd Triple Crown, the Rocket defeated Ding Junhui 10-7 to secure his most recent victory, which occurred three decades after his first. This victory puts him four wins ahead of fellow snooker legend Stephen Hendry at the top of the all-time record.
After winning the £250,000 tournament jackpot, O’Sullivan increased his enormous career earnings, although prior to defeating Ding in the final, he indicated that he would not be overly extravagant in his celebrations.
“Just a couple of Snickers bars, a bag of crisps and a Diet Coke on the motorway on the way home,” claimed the man. One of my fave things to do after spending a few days travelling is that.
“I immediately tuck into a Diet Coke, a bag of cheese and onion, and two Snickers. Incredible. It precisely hits the mark.”
After winning the UK Championship, O’Sullivan is scheduled to travel to China, where he will likely play alongside a number of top snooker players in a Christmas Day exhibition in Macau.
