Mark Allen wins Snooker Shoot Out title

After the most recent Snooker Shoot Out in Swansea, Mark Allen has emerged as the winner.

No player has ever won the competition more than once thanks in part to the quickfire format; Northern Irishman Allen is the most recent maiden winner.

Allen defeated Anderson Lam 58-36 to start the final day of the three-day competition. Later, in the quarterfinals, he was involved in a close 19-10 victory over Oliver Lines.

This arranged a matchup with Si Jiahui, the 2023 World Championship semi-finalist, who would have been thrilled to make it to another semi-final in a live event.

Nevertheless, Allen prevailed 52–18, setting himself up for a match against Cao Yupeng, another Chinese player.

Yupeng has not advanced past the third round in any competition since making it to the Scottish Open final in December 2017. However, wins over Ali Carter, Mark Davis, and Hammad Miah allowed him to advance to the main event.

But Allen—who takes over as the world’s third-ranked player after Luca Brecel—came out on top, controlling the championship match to win 65–4 and take home the £50,000 first prize.

In the meantime, Yupeng manages to get to 43rd place in the world rankings, while Jiahui continues to advance, moving up to 28th place in an attempt to move up the ranks as fast as possible.
