Famed running back After retiring, Jerome Bettis

Win a Super Bowl championship was what Jerome Bettis set out to do when he first began playing football.

And he left the game he loved on top of the world moments after the last gun in Super Bowl XL sounded.

After the Steelers overcame the Seahawks to win the championship, Bettis celebrated the end of his playing career by raising the Lombardi Trophy in the middle of Ford Field.

“It’s been an amazing journey,” Bettis remarked. “There comes a point when you have to give up. My goal in playing this game was to win a title. As a champion, I believe that Detroit is The Bus’s final destination.”

Bettis had his best years after being traded to the Steelers on draft day in 1996, but he started his career with the Los Angeles Rams in 1993. With the Steelers, Bettis carried for 10,571 yards. In his career, he accumulated 13,662 yards, ranking sixth overall in NFL history.

In 2015, Bettis was admitted as a member of the Class of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
