Liverpool reportedly have an agreement in place with Victor Osimhen but are yet to discuss with Napoli, as per journalist Valter Di Maggio.
Italian journalist Valter Di Maggio claims that Liverpool and Victor Osimhen have a deal in place for Osimhen to join them in the summer. The 24-year-old striker and his agency may decide not to pursue a contract renewal with Napoli, the reporter informed Area Napoli via Sport Witness, citing Liverpool’s lack of interest.
According to Victor Osimhen’s agent Roberto Calenda, Liverpool has always been interested in signing the Nigerian in 2020. Rather, the 24-year-old striker was acquired by Napoli for a substantial sum of money, and he has been a huge success there.
After a staggering 33-year absence, Osimhen’s 31 goals in the previous campaign enabled Napoli to win the Serie A championship. Despite the fact that he has already scored six goals in the new campaign, things aren’t all that quiet because his future is in jeopardy.
A TikTok post had sparked a public spat between Napoli and Osimhen. There’s more going on in the background as the issue appears to be under control in the coming weeks. The 24-year-old striker may have changed his mind on a verbally agreed-upon contract renewal, according to a recent statement from the club.
“President de Laurentiis never shared any negative comment about Victor,” the statement stated. He just stated that Osimhen had changed his mind after they had verbally agreed to sign a new contract. “Hopefully, this is just a standby moment while we consider it. We will talk about the future with his agent Calenda in the upcoming weeks.
Journalist Valter Di Maggio now maintains that Liverpool and the striker have a deal in place for the player to go in the summer. The writer implies that Osimhen and Calenda are the driving forces behind this choice, which would force Napoli to reconsider their approach.
Di Maggio said, “The parties had reached an agreement for the renewal, but then Calenda and Osimhen went back on their word. What happened? There was the inclusion of another club, from the Premier League. I’m talking about Liverpool.”
“There would be frequent contacts, but I just learned something else: there would be agreements already reached. Let me clarify: the agreements would be between the Reds and the player, therefore they would not involve Napoli. I hope Laurentiis will be able to keep Victor Osimhen at least until June, but we can’t be sure.”
Osimhen has drawn a lot of interest from Liverpool, who recently scouted him during the international break. Although they might not actually need a new striker, they would jump at the chance to sign the 24-year-old if it presented itself.
Napoli may ask for more than £140 million for their great player, something Liverpool may need to consider. Although the Merseysiders lack the financial resources of some of their competitors, they have a history of closing significant deals on time.
Salvatore Biazzo, another Italian journalist, just disqualified Liverpool from the competition, citing budgetary constraints. If Di Maggio’s assertion is true, though, they might genuinely be interested in the Napoli player.
According to Di Maggio’s comments, Liverpool might have reached a broad understanding on personal terms, but this is a typical occurrence in football transfers. The main concern would be reaching a deal with Napoli, who are unlikely to let him depart without a fight.
