This week in Edinburgh, Gary Wilson returned to form, defeating Noppon Saengkham 9–5 in the Scottish Open final at the Meadowbank Sports Centre to retain his championship. In the 2023–24 season, Wilson had little form when he moved to Scotland. However, everything fell into place, and he ended up winning his second ranking title to save the season.
After winning the Scottish Open again, Gary Wilson has expressed his happiness at becoming a serial winner in the game of snooker.
Wilson recovered his form at a joyful hunting ground after a difficult start to the 2023–24 season. He dominated the final to defeat Noppon Saengkham and win the title.
Along with defending a Home Nations championship alongside Judd Trump, Mark Selby, and Mark Allen, he also gained entry into a rare group as a multiple ranking title holder.
Wilson is pleased with both the accomplishment and the manner he won at the Meadowbank Sports Centre in Edinburgh.
“I’ve lost both finals on the path I’ve taken,” Wilson stated in the Eurosport studio. “The third one was more akin to playing by instinct and happened last year.”To put it another way, when Ronnie (O’Sullivan) claims he completed his allotted five minutes and eight seconds, he did so improperly. I felt a little bit like that while I was playing last year.
“I’m not going into this one hoping to make it 3-1 when you lose two and win one. I had imagined that I would like them when I get to the finals, so I wanted to make it 2-2 and have parity.
Wilson said that it was difficult to cross the line, despite the result seeming to be 9–5.
“It was agony,” he declared. “I don’t think I played positionally, but I felt like I had to keep chiselling one in because I couldn’t seem to land on something nice.” I said, “It doesn’t matter; just keep using pot and you’ll get there.”
Wilson acknowledged his difficulties with his game earlier in the week and expressed gratitude to his family for their steadfast support.
Wilson remarked, “They have more faith in me.” “I have good cause to be struggling, and it is difficult to understand what is wrong and what the issue is while looking within.
“They are very, very clever.”
