Unrestricted free agent ILB Cody Barton signs a one-year contract with the Broncos.
ENGLEWOOD, Colorado:The Broncos have signed free agents in order to bolster their inside linebacking corps.
Inside linebacker Cody Barton, an unrestricted free agent, was signed by Denver on Monday, the team announced. The deal is for one season.
After being selected by Seattle in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, Barton joined the league and played in 65 games for the Seahawks in his rookie season. Barton recorded 231 tackles, two interceptions, eight passes defensed, two forced fumbles, two sacks, five tackles for loss, and five quarterback hits during that 16-game stint, which included 16 starts.
The former Utah player then joined with Washington prior to the 2023 campaign, making 13 appearances and starting each of them. In addition to his team-high 121 tackles, he also had one pass defence, three tackles for loss, two quarterback hits, and an interception. Barton participated in 13 games and played 93% of the defensive snaps with the Commanders.
Barton was also a key member of Seattle’s special teams. In each of his first three seasons with the team, he played more than 65 percent of Seattle’s special teams snaps. In 2022, he continued to play a major role, accounting for 58 percent of the snaps, despite starting 11 games.
