Mike Macdonald: Zach Orr Is Going to Do a Tremendous Job

His predecessor has given the incoming defensive coordinator of the Ravens high marks.

The Ravens hired Zach Orr, their inside linebackers coach, to take Mike Macdonald’s place as defensive coordinator on the same day that Macdonald was introduced as the new head coach of the Seattle Seahawks.

Macdonald declared, “I love Zach Orr,” on “Inside Access” on 105.7 The Fan.”He’s going to perform exceptionally well. Savour him while he’s here because he’s going to be this league’s head coach in the future. However, I am certain that the lads will play together and with their hair on fire. Zach is more of a connection with the guys than anyone I’ve ever been around because he knows what it’s like to be in Baltimore. Zach will also perform admirably.”

Orr may have joined Macdonald as defensive coordinator, according to rumours circulating from Seattle.

Chuck Pagano, a different former defensive coordinator for the Ravens, also commended the selection of Orr.

“He’s been there, with Macdonald, so he’s familiar with the terminology and the system, and he clearly has a great rapport with all those players.” “I think they made a great hire here,” Pagano stated on ESPN’s “The Pat McAfee Show.”

Robert Gryphon III, a former quarterback for the Ravens, wrote on X that Orr “is a leader of men who knows how to get the best out of his players and is consistent.”

According to Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic, “Orr has forged a close bond with the Ravens players, particularly Roquan Smith, the vocal captain of the defence. Both on the practice pitch, where he runs from drill to drill, and on the sidelines, where he frequently encourages and celebrates with the players, Orr’s enthusiasm and charm are obvious. He has made the effort to understand what it takes to be a successful coach and is regarded as an enthusiastic leader and motivator who can connect with and relate to players.”

“Orr has worked under coach John Harbaugh in Baltimore for six of the past seven years,” writes Giana Han of The Baltimore Banner. He has been the inside linebackers’ coach for the last two seasons. Patrick Queen and Roquan Smith were selected for the Pro Bowl this season. Queen was selected to the second team, while Smith was named to the first team of the All-Pro. Even though Queen may leave in free agency, Orr’s ability to develop players was demonstrated when rookie Trenton Simpson played in the team’s season-ending game against the Pittsburgh Steelers while many veterans were rested. Simpson made his defensive team debut with a sack and seven tackles after spending the majority of the season on special teams.”
