Steelers Lose Another Coaching Candidate Due To 3 Major Reasons

A possible quarterbacks coach will have to be found elsewhere for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Pittsburgh Jerrod Johnson agreed to a contract extension with the Houston Texans, therefore the Pittsburgh Steelers will not have the chance to hire one of the best quarterback coaches in the NFL, according to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.

The Steelers interviewed Johnson for the role of offensive coordinator; Arthur Smith, a former head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, was ultimately hired to fill it. Following the hiring, it became unclear whether the team would give Johnson a job as their passing game coordinator and QB coach. Johnson is still in Houston, so that question is now closed.

According to reports, Mike Sullivan, the Steelers’ current quarterbacks coach, will be let go. After the team benched Matt Canada, Sullivan assumed play-calling duties. The New Orleans Saints and Las Vegas Raiders have interviewed Sullivan for their open offensive coordinator roles. However, Pittsburgh is anticipated to replace him even if he is not hired.

It’s yet unclear with whom, but it won’t be Johnson. It is probable that the Steelers will search for a younger player with significant potential, particularly if Smith is considered a possible head coach candidate once more in the future.
