WATCH: In his hometown, Joe Burrow surprises the employees of Ohio Lowe’s
FOX19, ATHENS, Ohio – Joe Burrow, the predicted first-overall choice in the NFL Draft, recently spoke with Lowe’s colleagues in his hometown of Athens, Ohio.
The purpose of the unexpected video calls was to express gratitude to the staff with their tireless efforts and front-line service during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Burrow posted on Instagram, saying, “I wanted to call a few special people at Lowe’s in my hometown to thank them for everything they do for our community, staying strong in good times and bad. I look forward to getting a call I’ll never forget later this week.” I’m really happy to be from Athens, Ohio, because of people like this who put in a lot of work.”
Burrow shocked every Lowe’s associate during the calls by offering to host them at one of his upcoming games.
Hardware stores like Lowe’s are considered ‘essential’ and thus allowed to stay open through Ohio’s required business closures.
The calls are being made in the lead-up to Thursday’s NFL Draft, which is anticipated to see Burrow selected first overall by the Cincinnati Bengals.
The former Ohio State Buckeye completed his collegiate career at LSU, where he turned in one of the most successful and outstanding seasons in the annals of college football during his last year.
