After an incredible victory over Ali Carter in the Masters final, Ronnie O’Sullivan apologises for his “dumb” remarks.

After defeating Ali Carter in Sunday’s Masters, Ronnie O’Sullivan has said he regrets his “stupid” remarks about wanting to win eight times at each Triple Crown tournament.

The 48-year-old appeared to be losing at Alexandra Palace after trailing 6-3.

But O’Sullivan raised the stakes and won the championship with an incredible comeback, triumphing 10-7 in the end.

With this victory, The Rocket has become both the youngest and the oldest champion, having already won eight world crowns.

That’s five more than players like Paul Hunter, Steve Davis, Mark Selby, Cliff Thorburn, and Stephen Hendry, and two more than Stephen Hendry.

O’Sullivan recently acknowledged that his goal was to win eight races at every Triple Crown competition.

He has since admitted, nevertheless, that he regrets saying those things.

He said, “I wish I hadn’t brought up that stupid eight, eight, eight.”

Even though I have no interest in it, there are moments when you feel compelled to speak up.

“To be honest, I don’t care about numbers.”

O’Sullivan also admitted he struggled to get excited by his latest triumph, despite continuing to write his name into the snooker history books.

“It is hard to get excited by it as I have been doing it for so long,” he added.

“I just try and incorporate it into my life. That’s how I view snooker.

“It has been all of my life so I have to get that balance right between making sure I am ready to play, rather than feeling I have to put in loads of work and practice as I want to win tournaments. I am not burnt up by that anymore.
