Texas’s Austin There will be two more Texas football standouts in the NFL.

Leading rusher Jonathan Brooks and defensive end Byron Murphy II made their 2024 NFL Draft announcements public on Wednesday.

Hallettsville native Brooks, a third-year running back, finished his Texas career with 18 touchdowns overall in 22 games. Before rupturing his ACL during the Longhorns’ victory against TCU in November, he was having a breakout 2023 season. Fortunately for Brooks, he should be cleared to play by training camp in July, according to sources.

Murphy, meanwhile, announced his plans on social media following Texas’s College Football Playoff victory. The native of North Texas also wore the burnt orange for three years, excelling as a defensive lineman for the Longhorns.

“I would like to thank Coach Sark for allowing me to be a part of his programme and giving me the opportunity to showcase my skill set on the highest stages of college football,” Murphy wrote at the time.

In just 39 games, Murphy concluded his career at Texas with a total of 70 tackles and 8 sacks. Murphy won multiple awards, including the 2021 Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year title.
