BREAKING NEWS: Boston Celtics Observing Kelly Olynyk Trade By NBA Trade Deadline Per Marc Stein
The experienced big man for the Utah Jazz might perhaps be traded to another team.
The Utah Jazz are still the subject of a lot of rumours, and during the holiday weekend, there was talk of another possible in-season deal. This time, experienced big man Kelly Olynyk just so happens to be the most recent name connected.
With a strong start to his 2023–24 season (especially in the efficiency category), the second-year Jazzman has all but cemented his status as a top trade target before the NBA trade deadline.
NBA source Marc Stein claims that the Boston Celtics could try to acquire the veteran Jazz player before the deadline in February:
“League sources claim that Boston is one among the clubs keeping an eye on Kelly Olynyk of Utah ahead of a possible trade chase. Olynyk is one of several Jazz veterans who are reportedly available, as was previously discussed here before my Showcase trip, and the Celtics are definitely familiar with him.”
Olynyk has averaged 7.9 points, 5.5 assists, and 4.5 rebounds in slightly over 20 minutes per game over the course of the season’s 28 games played. His experience, size, shooting, and playmaking skills make him a valuable asset on many competitive teams, particularly for Boston.
From 2013 to 2017, Olynyk played for the Celtics during his first several seasons in the NBA. In his last season, he made it to the Eastern Conference Finals. If he were to return, he could be able to reach those legendary levels once more and have a real chance of winning an NBA title.
Even though there is still a long way to go before the deadline, this plot will be interesting to follow as the season goes on. Danny Ainge may decide to go with a fire sale in order to continue developing this squad for the future if the Jazz are unable to move up in the standings and earn a chance at the Play-In Tournament.
