SAN ANTONIO: The signing of guard David Duke Jr. to a Two-Way contract by the San Antonio Spurs is a major step forward.
The contract’s specifics are kept secret in accordance with team policy. In a related roster move, the Spurs waived guard Sir’Jabari Rice, a two-way player.
Duke Jr., who is 6-4 and weighs 205 pounds, comes from the Philadelphia 76ers’ G League member, the Delaware Blue Coats. His skills were on full display in the 11 games he played with the Blue Coats, averaging 21.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.1 assists in 31.5 minutes. Duke Jr. spent two seasons (2022–2023) as a Two-Way player for the Brooklyn Nets, where he averaged 4.2 points and 2.1 rebounds in 12.6 minutes of action in 45 NBA games.
The native of Providence, Rhode Island, has collegiate experience from Providence College, when in his junior year he was named an Associated Press Honourable Mention All-America. Duke Jr. averaged 11.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.2 assists in 30.8 minutes throughout his 91 games with the Friars.
In tandem, the Spurs said goodbye to guard Sir’Jabari Rice, a two-way player who played in four games for the team this year. In 20.3 minutes, Rice demonstrated his abilities with an average of 9.3 points, 4.0 assists, and 2.0 rebounds.
The goal of this calculated roster move is to strengthen the Spurs’ starting lineup and increase their ability to compete in the next games.
