At the Barbican Centre in York earlier in December, Ronnie O’Sullivan won the UK Championship for the eighth time, further solidifying his already illustrious status. The 48-year-old made the decision to skip Meadowbank’s Scottish Open due to health concerns. He refuted rumours that he withdrew from the Scottish Open too late, telling Eurosport he had fully recovered from the UK Championship.

Beginning in December, O’Sullivan won a record-breaking ninth UK Championship.
Even though he wasn’t playing at his peak in York’s Barbican Centre, he managed to prevail and showed some of his best play to defeat Ding Junhui in the championship match.
O’Sullivan decided not to play in the Scottish Open following a demanding period in York, although he did go to Edinburgh on Friday to begin punditry work for Eurosport.
In the Eurosport studio, O’Sullivan stated, “I am feeling alright.” I was not quite ready to come and play here at the Scottish Open, which is extremely sad because I love this tournament, this city, and this location. However, I have recovered from the UK Championship, which was a difficult tournament and took a lot out of me.
There was some controversy around O’Sullivan’s withdrawal; Liam Graham, his first-round opponent, took issue with the world No. 1 for doing so.
Graham told the Daily Record, “It’s not right, what he did is disrespectful.” It’s sad that so many individuals missed work to attend today’s event.
“I was really looking forward to playing the best players in the world at the end of the day.” Many of my guests came to watch, and they are rather disappointed.It makes sense considering what he does. When I arrived at the location this morning, I learned. I believe he left really late, so I didn’t have much notice.
