During his Snooker Shoot Out second-round triumph over Mostafa Dorgham on Friday afternoon, Kyren Wilson shocked onlookers inside Swansea Arena by donning a red oven glove. Wilson said to Eurosport following the game, “I just kept hearing someone say, ‘don’t forget the roast.'” It seems like I’m roasting something.” Watch the Shoot Out live on Eurosport and Discovery+ via streaming.
During his victory on Friday afternoon in the Snooker Shoot Out second round, Kyren Wilson made the choice to don an oven glove.
After losing to world No. 60 Jamie Clarke 6-5 at the UK Championship last week after leading 5-1, the former World Championship finalist is hoping to recover this weekend.
In the opening round of the Shoot Out on Wednesday, Wilson defeated Daniel Wells 47–38 to secure his spot in the final 64. He faced Mostafa Dorgham of Egypt on Friday.
Wilson gained back into the frame thanks to a Dorgham error, and he exploited to win 71–14. Wilson delighted the audience by covering his bridge hand with a bright red oven glove after he realised the frame was sealed.
After the game, Wilson told Eurosport, “The kitchen were kind enough to lend me it.”
“I simply think that this is such a great occasion. Naturally, I released it after winning the frame; if I hadn’t needed to win, I wouldn’t have done it. Everyone desires enjoyment.
“I had a pleasant weekend. Well, then, why not display it?
“I heard someone say, ‘Don’t forget the roast!'” repeatedly. It looks like I’m roasting.
It’s Friday, and since everyone wants to have a good time, I’m just having fun. It does appear to resemble a boxing glove.
Reanne Evans of Eurosport retorted in jest, saying, “I just thought maybe you thought the table got a bit hot and thought ‘I need the glove’.”
Wilson, who advanced to the finals day on Saturday, stated that he is now having fun with his cue sports while attempting to secure a spot in the World Grand Prix for next month by competing well this week and the following week at the Scottish Open in Edinburgh.
“You can see from that I’m really sharp, I’m playing so well,” he stated.
“I had the privilege of practicing with Daniel Wells yesterday; we defeated each other on Wednesday. I’m working hard at it.”
